Serious question: Why didn't the U.S. assume any responsibility for the Holocaust?

A lot of Americans were outraged when they learned of Henry Ford's antisemitism before and during WWII. It's not often taught because he was the hero who made American cars. He and Thomas Edison used money made off of their products to aid Hitler in his antisemitic cause. It's not the nation's fault, it's just a few Americans.
