Why do people consider ipsotheists to be 'without a god' (i.e. atheists)?

Um one could say the same thing about the christian leaders who carried out atrocity's antithetical to the christian teachings you cant say "atheist" leaders are exempt without saying "christian" leaders are exempt logically
